Social Network Website to be moderated – Government of India.

“Social Network websites has to be controlled” said Kapil Sibel, The Minister for Telecoms, "twitter police"India. “The statements or images that insults political and religious leaders have to be removed”, He added. But it is still not be guaranteed by any social networking websites. Some images and messages that disrupt the reputation of Mr. Manmohan Singh – the Prime Minister of India and Sonia Gandhi – The leader of Congress Party in India appeared in Social Media recently. It provoked the Telecom ministry to act against social media websites. The minister had discussion with the concerned officials of all major social networking companies like Google, Facebook, Microsoft and Yahoo. The minister invited the attention on the posters that harmed the reputation of religious leaders to the company spokespersons. It is not possible to remove the messages that spread though the network which is used by millions of people worldwide. But the companies assured the ministry that they would investigate upon request on a specific issue or complaint raised by the government. “The social networking websites need not be censored, Instead, the messages that affects the religious harmony and good conduct of millions of citizens cannot be tolerated at any extent” said the minister. The government has been taking efforts to control social networking websites since the last three months. The social networking websites created a strong impact on anticorruption movement by Anna Hasare. The internet users in India exceed one billion next only to USA and China.

    With the advent of internet, censorship is impossible. You can see in China that even though they strictly control people who really want to can still get to websites that the government doesn’t want them to.
